Alcoholics Anonymous
West Sussex

Alcoholics Anonymous is a Fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes.

Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Employment Liaison in West Sussex

The purpose of employment liaison in the West Sussex area is to raise awareness of Alcoholics Anonymous, and the programme of recovery that is available through AA.

We aim to help the business community to understand the problem of alcoholism, which can have a wide range of consequences for both employers and the employee.

We recognise that alcohol abuse, and alcoholism can have negative impact for employers. According to the UK Government Health and Safety Executive alcohol is estimated to cause 3-5% of all absences from work, with around 8 to 14 million lost working days in the United Kingdom each year.

If you are an employer with an employee working for your organisation who may have a problem with alcohol, it may help you to read the chapter of the AA book that was specifically written for Employers. What can we do locally ?

Employment Liaison in West Sussex are able to talk to employers to try to provide a better insight into, and understanding of, alcoholism. We are recovering alcoholics, who are employees, and in some cases employers.

We can arrange to come into the workplace to present on the issue of alcoholism, supply literature to employers, or those who may have a problem with alcohol, and we are always prepared to talk directly to those who may have alcohol issues, and to take them along to a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Our experience is that alcoholics who find recovery can become very valuable and conscientious employees, and we hope that if you are faced with alcohol issues within your business, we may have a solution.

The Employment Liaison team in West Sussex is part of a Regional, National and Worldwide co-ordinated effort within Alcoholics Anonymous to help combat suffering through alcohol abuse.

A downloadable list of local AA meetings is available on this website, at the bottom of Members page.
