Alcoholics Anonymous
West Sussex

Alcoholics Anonymous is a Fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes.

Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

AA Health Liaison
in West Sussex

The role of AA Health Liaison is to co-operate with GP Surgeries, Clinics, Hospitals and Occupational Health Departments in the treatment of people suffering from alcohol abuse.

We are able to provide active assistance to healthcare professionals in understanding the problems of alcohol abuse in their patients and those people nearest to them.

HM Government has launched The National Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy which is already in place in Scotland and is due to be rolled out to the rest of the UK very soon. It has undertaken a detailed health assessment on alcohol dependency and recommends Alcoholics Anonymous as the support resource for health professionals to use.

What can AA do?

The West Sussex Health Liaison team, who are all recovering alcoholics in AA, can visit the premises of health professionals and give talks to staff who are in contact with patients, in order that they may reach a better understanding of alcohol abuse, its diagnosis and its treatment. We can also provide a full range of literature and posters for distribution to not only the patients but also equally importantly to the relatives and those closest to them, who often suffer as a result of the dependency.

The Health Liaison team in West Sussex is part of a Regional, National and Worldwide co-ordinated effort within Alcoholics Anonymous to help combat suffering through alcohol abuse.

The Health Liaison Officer can provide literature and also organise presentations for you if you require them.
